The 35th Annual Vancouver International Wine Festival officially kicked off yesterday at Joey Restaurants Wine Room in Vancouver. With sparkling wine handed to you at the door, and a wine menu specially picked out to pair with delicious dishes, it was set to be a perfect way to celebrate the festival.
The Vancouver International Wine Festival (VIWF) is one of my favourite events in Vancouver. I look forward to it each year, as it’s a magical place where the wine world comes together under one roof at the beautiful Vancouver Convention Centre, to celebrate and share their passion for wine. Where else do you have an opportunity to taste over 1, 850 wines from 175 wineries in the city?
Each year the festival highlights a Theme Region and Global Focus to celebrate during the festival. This year, Vancouver welcomes California, with a focus on Chardonnay. Even though this isn’t my favourite varietal (*wine made primarily from a particular grape variety), I am sure after my two visits to the International Festival Tasting Room, I will find something I enjoy.
If you will be attending VIWF, be sure to tweet me @uncorkBC and tell me your favourite wineries. See you in the Tasting Room!
