Last night we were invited to Road 13 Vineyards for a special winery dinner in their stunning Executive Lounge. Owners Pat and Mick, alongside son Joe and winemaker Jay welcomed guests and were available throughout the evening, answering guests questions and telling fantastic stories.
We started off the evening in the tasting room, where we enjoyed the 2012 Stemwinder paired elegantly with Arancini (little fried risotto balls) and prosciutto with crushed freshly shelled peas and ricotta.
Then, we walked over to the Executive Lounge for the sit down dinner, catered by Okanagan’s Joy Road Catering and paired perfectly with Road 13 award-winning wines. The vineyard and valley views from this exclusive room are stunning and set the tone of the entire evening.
First Course | Smoked steelhead with sorrel aioli and smoked egg yolk with pickled pink onions and garden herbs paired with 2011 Jackpot Chardonnay.
Second Course | Agnolotti and jus with oregano and shaved parmesan paired with 2012 Syrah Malbec (a crowd favourite of the evening).
Third Course | Strip loin with red wine jus, rosti with jerusalem artichoke, apple and potato, and kale with currants and crushed toasted hazelnuts paired with 2010 5th Element.
Fourth Course | Dark chocolate mousse with first of the season strawberries, wild rose and cocoa cookies paired with 2012 Merlot.
The Executive Lounge at Road 13 will host several Summer and Fall Dinners Series on July 13 (Artisan Culinary Concepts), August 13 (Joy Road Catering), September 13 (Artisan Culinary Concepts), October 4 (Joy Road Catering) and October 13 (Artisan Culinary Concepts).
