On Friday, we were invited to Quails’ Gate 25th Anniversary celebration with Family and Friends of the winery. Just under 100 special guests enjoyed a delicious BBQ buffet dinner prepared by Chef Roger Sleiman right below the vineyard, overlooking beautiful Lake Okanagan.
As we arrived, we were able to taste older vintages- dating back to a 1998 Pinot Noir- from some of their library wines. I especially loved the 2007 Pinot Noir, and recommend purchasing the 2012 now and let it rest for a few years.
We also had a chance to taste from their brand new special 25th Anniversary wines and check out the brand new label that honours their anniversary. Each label in the series depicts a quilt made by Rosemary, who is the mother of the current second-generation winery owners. Like the wine, each quilt took years to produce and was crafted with the utmost attention to detail. The wines include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Syrah, which are made in very limited quanities and are available for purchase only at the winery.
Following dinner and wine tastings, guests enjoyed a private performance from two-time Juno nominee Royal Wood.
The Quails’ Gate estate has been family farmed since 1959. Dick Stewart purchased the property because he recognized it had the potential to be one of the Okanagan’s finest grape-growing areas. Over the years, he transitioned from growing tree fruit and grates to producing their own wines.
The family believes passionately that great wines begin in the vineyard and for this reason, they are deeply committed to sustainable vineyard and winemaking practices that protect and enrich the land.
Quails’ Gate Winery is one of the most well-known wineries in Kelowna, and is situated on Boucherie Road right in West Kelowna. Any stop to this region should include a visit at this winery. Plan to not only taste in their beautiful tasting room overlooking the vineyard and lake, but have lunch or dinner at Old Vines Restaurant. Be sure to take a walk around to the bottom of the vineyard and enjoy spectacular views of Lake Okanagan.
Cheers to Quails’ Gate 25th Anniversary and here’s to many great years to come!
