Perfect Pairings at Hamilton Street Grill

Tonight we were invited to taste at a special wine event right in the heart of Yaletown at Hamilton Street Grill. Right away I was greeted by friendly owner and Chef, Neil Wyles who led me to join a table of 3 ladies- all of which haven’t missed one of his wine tasting events since their inception.

When he asked all of us 30 guests who was at the event for the first time, my hand was the only one that went up. It just showed how dedicated his guests are, and right then and there, I knew I was in for a real treat.

The wine tasting event consisted of 3 courses prepared by Chef Neil Wyles. Each were thoughtfully paired with award-winning wines from Oliver’s Tinhorn Creek. The winery had one of their wine representatives who explained each wine and was on hand to answer questions from guests.

Here is what we enjoyed:

First Course | freshly seared scallops on a homemade potato hash topped paired with Tinhorn Creek Pinot Gris

Second Course | duck confit risotto topped with seared duck breast paired with Tinhorn Creek Merlot *my favourite pairing of the evening

Third Course | flank steak crostini topped with caramelized onions, mushrooms and blue cheese paired with Tinhorn Creek Cabernet Franc

What I have come to really appreciate from Tinhorn Creek is their consistency year after year with their wines. They are also the winery that everyone else is constantly watching to see what the next trend is. This year marked their 20th Anniversary and it has come with some incredible new events, along with a new winemaker, Andrew Windsor. But don’t worry, Sandra Oldfield will still oversee all operations with her new role as CEO and President. I can’t wait to see what next year brings for the winery!

Keep an eye out on Hamilton Street Grill’s Facebook page to learn more about upcoming wine events. There are only 6 seats left for tomorrow’s wine tasting and pairing event featuring Tinhorn Creek wines. Tickets are only $25 and the event runs from 5:30-7pm. Call  604-331-1511 for reservations.
