the hatch wine dinner at Feast

On April 11th we were invited to take part in a special wine dinner at Feast Neighbourhood Table in West Vancouver featuring West Kelowna’s newest winery, the hatch.

Ive been to the hatch a few times now, and can say its well worth a stop on your Kelowna wine tour! You basically step back in time into a world of rustic antiques- all displayed perfectly throughout the tasting room. One of the things I love most about this winery, is that you decide where you would like to do your tasting. Choose to sit at the large wooden table in the back, stand and socialize at your own hightop table, or stand up at the front at their tasting bar. Educational, friendly staff will come greet your group and slowly take you thru the tasting at your own pace.

If I could choose a restaurant in Vancouver to host the hatch wines which perfectly resembles the inside of the winery, I would pick Feast! The restaurant featured rustic, industrial lighting throughout, wooden elements and an old school bar.

The evening started with a welcome glass of The House series B. Yanco, which is mainly Pinot Blanc (from their vineyard in West Kelowna), with a bit of Gewurztraminer which adds a lovely floral quality. It was a treat to have one of the founders and visionary minds behind hatch wines, Jesse Harnden at the dinner. We listened intently as he told special stories about how the hatch came to be and walked us thru all the wines.

First Course was Albacore Tuna Ceviche with ginger, yuzu, avocado and iceberg lettuce paired with Hatch Octobubbles Brut Rose.

Second Course was pan seared BC Bullet Sturgeon with fennel, pickled mustard seeds and cauliflower paired with Screaming Frenzy Chardonnay.

Third Course was Roasted Fraser Valley Pork Loin with chimichurri rojo and black bean salsa paired with Hatch Rosso (Pinot Noir).

Fourth Course was AAA Flat Iron Steak with maple soy marinade, smoked mushrooms, potatoes and demi-glace paired with Screaming Frenzy Meritage.

Final Course was Chocolate Bread Pudding with blueberry sauce, amarena cherries paired with Black Swift Merlot.

Thank you so much to the Feast for having us at the wine dinner! We highly recommend you look into tickets for their next dinner, happening May 15th featuring wines from Noble Ridge. Grab your family and friends and enjoy an unforgettable wine experience right here in Vancouver.
