When most people think of wine country and rolling vineyards, they immediately think of Napa Valley in California, or Tuscany in Italy. Not a lot of people know that you can take a quick 45 minute drive outside the city and experience charming wineries full of great stories and delicious BC wine.
Explore the 7 Wineries of Langley:
Township 7 Vineyard & Winery is one of two locations in BC. Check out their brand new modern tasting bar, and ask to try their winemaker’s specialty, Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. Be sure to visit their website, as this winery constantly has special events happening at their Langley location including grape stomps in the fall.
Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery is the oldest and largest winery of them all. If you are looking for a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner, check out Bacchus Bistro which opens up and overlooks the vineyard.
Vista D’oro Farms & Winery is one of the prettiest wineries I have ever visited. Starting off producing delicious jams, husband and wife duo now make great wines at their family farm. Be sure to taste their flagship D’oro-fortified walnut wine. Bring your empty picnic basket to their wine shop and fill it up with goodies, grab a bottle of wine, then take a seat in their beautiful picnic area, or underneath the walnut tree.
Backyard Vineyards (formerly known as Neck of the Woods) instantly makes you feel right at home. With friendly staff, a comfortable atmosphere, and delicious, affordable wines, you won’t be disappointed in your visit. Be sure to pick up a bottle of their sparkling wine Blanc de Noir Brut (only $22.99 a bottle!), or noisy neighbor white and/or red blend (only $14.99 a bottle!).
Blackwood Lane Vineyards & Winery lives by a simple motto “Bonus Vita et Bonus Amici” which means Good Life and Good Friends. Carlos Lee produces chemical-free wines from grapes out of the Okanagan Valley. If you love high quality red wines, this is the place to stock up and get some great bottles for your wine cellar.
Krause Berry Farm & Estate Winery started off as a family-run fruit farm, and this year decided to turn that delicious BC fruit into wine. Be sure to “saddle up” at the tasting bar and start off with a glass of strawberry sparkling wine, or try a wine-a-Rita. Allow for extra time at this winery because there are tons of fun activities for everyone around the farm- from U-pick, to a petting farm, to a market with home-made bread and pies.
Fort Wine Co. is located just outside of Fort Langley. This winery only produces fruit wines, and is known for their cranberry or blueberry wine. If you call ahead, be sure to ask for a cheese platter or house-made sangria.
Pick up a passport at the winery or participating hotels, receive all 7 stamps from each location, and have a chance to win some incredible prizes. For more information, check out Langley Passport.
